Winter can be an incredibly tough time. Cold winds sting any exposed skin and still seemingly pierce through even the thickest gloves and hats. Sniffling noises make more noise than words spoken, and the daily gloom of grey skies and hollow trees can make it difficult to find anything to look forward to. Perhaps that isn't such a sad thing, since the cold freezes lips and any expression risks opening up a cut, making the only color on your pale face be a blood red incision that mars any smile.
What makes matters worse is the effect the weather has on literally everything else. We know what the cold can do to houses, and the time it takes to heat up a car should also be considered egregious. Windows take forever to defrost and the numbness in your fingers throughout the drive is so disheartening, but it could definitely be worse. You could, for instance, be driving and then suddenly swerve into the side of the road, causing hundreds in damages to your car and potentially thousands to whatever you hit.
Icy roads are perhaps the most dangerous part of the winter season. It is invisible, annoying to get rid of, and incredibly hazardous. Drivers caught by icy roads can do little but try and minimize the damages, usually at the cost of their heartrates. It is impossible to adjust due to the loss of traction, and steering never goes where you think it will because you don't know when the real road comes back and when the ice starts again. Compared to heavy rains or even fog, icy roads directly impacts a car's ability to grip the road, making it exponentially more dangerous.
Liquid deicer is a small but critical resource to apply in the winter. It is the ultimate safety measure, preventing the danger before it can even begin. We know about the usefulness of rock salt, but the problem with that is the ice is already there. Liquid deicer stops ice from bonding to the road in the first place, helping to keep roads safer longer and allowing snowplows and other removal equipment to work more efficiently. The benefits to this small tool are enormous and can save countless lives. It spreads evenly, works at lower temperatures, and begins acting right as it is applied, rightfully making it one of the most efficient and reliable methods for keeping roads clear during freezing conditions.
The State of Florida is seeking bids from qualified vendors to provide liquid deicer for the Florida Department of Transportation. If interested in this opportunity, click on the link to learn more. The bid closes November 28, 2025 at 5:00 PM ET.
